Sacrificing –saying no to something– it’s a critical part in strategy. One of the most difficult parts, actually. And where many managers fail.
When talking about strategy, we tend to associate it to focusing. The key for a good strategy is to have a clear direction, and if you stick to it, you will succeed.
You probably have a clear focus or direction for your business. But, how do you deal with every day temptation?
The hardest, the least talked subject in strategy is sacrifice. Saying no to something in order to keep your focus. Sacrificing short-term opportunities to keep the long-term vision. Losing some ground here to win the right battle.
Strategy is the art of saying no.
And, as any art, it requires talent; but most important, the willingness and practice to master it.
